Welcome to a critical and hopeful dialogue about contexts, moralities, knowledges, the world, and the self.  We invite contributions ranging from the traditionally intellectual to the innovative, artistic, and experiential.  We welcome any submissions that fit under the broad umbrella of critical tourism studies and especially encourage submissions relating to the following themes:

 

 

Critical Explorations of Systems and Moments

  • WALLS, WIRES, AND FAST TRACKS: THE MOBILITIES OF SOME AND THE IMMOBILITIES OF OTHERS

  • RELATIONBITS: EXPLORING HUMAN-MACHINE INTERACTIONS AND DIGITAL WORLDS, COMMUNITIES, AND CULTURES

  • SHAKES AND SHOCKS: POLITICALLY-LOADED CRISES AND REACTIONS IN TOURISM PLACES

  • ECOLOGIES OF CARE: LIVING RELATIONALLY WITH OTHERS AND WITH OUR PLANET

 

Critical Responses to Essentialism and Erasure

  • I AM NOT A NUMBER: CELEBRATING THE PERSONAL AND THE SUBJECTIVE, CHALLENGING METRICS AND CAREERISM

  • RETHINKING TOURISM EDUCATION: PEDAGOGICAL AND CURRICULAR INNOVATION, TRANSFORMATIVE LEARNING, LIFELONG LEARNING—TOWARD WHAT ENDS?

Acceptable formats for contributions include papers, posters, panels, workshops, art exhibits, short films, etc.  If you have an idea, feel free to propose it!  Please submit a 500-word abstract, which also indicates the format of the contribution, using our online submission system via the button below.  At least one author must attend the conference in order for the work to be included.

Notification of Acceptance: January 15, 2017

Optional Full Papers Due: April 1, 2017

Final Versions Due for Proceedings: June 1, 2017
